Magnesite-based Chemicals
1. Magnesium Sulphate |
The chemical
composition is MgSiO4 which is white crystalline. There are varieties of hydrate containing crystal water, those seen often are anhydride, monohydrate(MgSiO4·H2O)and
heptahydrate(MgSiO47H2O)which
are obtained from the reaction of magnesite or caustic calcined
magnesite with sulfuric acid. Heptahydrate is used most often which,
being colorless crystal with bitter and salty taste, is also
called bitter salt. It is normally used as finishing agent
and mordant in textiles; bulking agent in paper-making field;
flame-proofing agent intensifying the refractory property for paper
and fabric in fire protection field; caccagoge in medicines; ferment
accelerator in food processing field etc. |

2. Magnesium Carbonate |
The molecular formula is MgCO3; white or white gray lump or powder; density is 3.037; discomposing when heated to 350°C, turning into magnesium oxide when heated to
700°C.
Natural raw magnesite is good to ordinary applications whilst that of high purity can be obtained through chemical synthesizing (for example, to mix magnesium sulphate with the solution of sodium carbonate and then be heated, precipitated, filtrated, dehydrated and exsiccated). It is mainly used as reinforcer for natural rubber, moisture proof
material, leavening agent for bread and biscuits, photo extinction additive for coatings and paint, base stocks for making toothpaste, cosmetics and medicines. |

3. Magnesium Oxide and Lightweight Magnesium Oxide |
Molecular formula
is MgO; white powder, non-soluble to acid, slightly soluble to
water, smell-less, tasteless, nontoxic. Producing method:
first making raw magnesite into magnesium hydroxide then let this
react with carbon dioxide so as to forming magnesium carbonate which
is finally fired into magnesium oxide.
Magnesium
oxide or lightweight magnesium oxide is a kind of basic chemical materials with various applications, such as skin nourishing cream in cosmetics, material for making some refractories, deslagging agent steel making furnace; material or additive for making paints, coatings, dyestuffs, adhesives, buffing compound, glass, porcelain enamel; rubber stuffing,
paper stuffing, plastic compounding agent, food additive, water processing agent, catalyst carrier, insulating coating for silicon steel sheet, basic material for some magnetic materials and medicines etc. |
4. Magnesium Fertilizer |
Magnesium fertilizer is a kind of fertilizer based on magnesium as macronutrient. Magnesium facilitates the absorption of phosphor for plant and vegetable, it is
one of the elements of forming chlorophyll. The magnesium fertilizer we export is largely the sulphuric magnesium fertilizer, that is,
monohydrate magnesium sulphate (MgSiO4·H2O). |

It is white powder (which can
be also processed into small balls of 2-4mm) and widely used in
agriculture and forestry field. |
